What is the greatest peril we face in the modern world? For many of us, this question is hard to answer. There are fewer major wars than ever before, and we’re living longer, healthier lives with each passing year. We’ve achieved global communication and the free sharing of information. At the same time, however, something is clearly missing from the lives of many people. Despite our level of digital interconnection, research shows that, as a society, we’re facing increasing feelings of loneliness and isolation. Ironically, the greatest threat to our well-being in this hyperconnected world is a profound lack of bonding.
This is why family photography is so important: It’s about much more than creating beautiful mementos—though this is a valuable pursuit in its own right—or having professional-quality images to share on social media. It’s about pressing “pause” on the hectic pace of everyday life, disconnecting from the world for a while, and spending time together in a meaningful way. It’s about making a little window of time that is just about you and your loved ones—no one else.
Take Hezi and his family, for instance, who I had the pleasure of meeting during this beautiful Limassol family photography session. Hezi works in one of the most demanding, fast-paced industries there is: Finance. Meanwhile, his wife balances being a jeweler with taking care of the couple’s three children—a daughter, 10, and two sons, one six and the other just a year old. They’re the picture of the modern family who manage to “have it all”: Careers, children, and a home in bustling Tel Aviv. But the secret to their success isn’t simply hard work and ambition: It’s also having their own private escape—a small apartment right here in Limassol—where they can retreat to rest, relax, and rejuvenate. They thrive because they have not forgotten the value of togetherness.
As this beautiful Limassol family photography session shows, here in Cyprus Hezi and his family get back to the basics. They take the time to stroll through Limassol’s central park, basking in the warm Mediterranean sun and watching the golden light glisten on green leaves. They sit by the shoreline of the sea, just listening to the lulling swish of the waves and letting let their cares drift away on the backs of the white gulls that soar overhead… In these moments, full of pleasures at once so simple and so deep, their spirits are renewed.
By choosing to capture these magical hours spent in Limassol with professional photography, Hezi and his family have made the memories of them tangible. Back in Tel Aviv, these images will serve as an oasis for the soul, taking them back to a time of peace, joy, and love. They can look at these photographs and remember that no matter what happens, they already have the most precious thing there is: Each other.
