On the first official day of Tara and Anish’s beautiful Hindu wedding ceremony in Limassol, I rejoined the couple with fresh enthusiasm. Indian weddings are renowned for their grandeur – filled with vivid colours, melodious music, and mesmerising rituals – and I knew theirs would be no exception. I made ready to once again capture the poetry of their union with my lens, preparing for the most spiritual part of the marriage.
As the guests relaxed together over breakfast, I began my work as a Hindu wedding photographer in Limassol, focussing my attention on the stunning jewelry and beautifully embroidered accessories set aside for Tara and Anish. Both bride and groom were arrayed in shimmering cream-white traditional outfits accented with gold and pearls. Tara’s jewelled necklace reflected the light glinting in her eyes as she smiled to herself, knowing that soon, she and Anish would cross the threshold into their new life together.
Outside, the venue was perfectly prepared for a beautiful Hindu wedding ceremony in Limassol: Bowls were filled with vibrant magenta flower petals, while photographs of beloved family members stood vigil, adding their blessings to the proceedings. Offerings of fruit were laid down, ensuring good fortune for the couple.
After the guests assembled by the pavilion, Anish prepared to greet his bride-to-be, his loved ones at his side. With thoughtful gestures, they asked the Gods to remove any obstacles from Tara and Anish’s path, making way for peace and prosperity. Then, at long last, it was time for Tara to make her entrance…
As a Hindu wedding photographer in Limassol, I knew that one of the most profound rites of the ceremony was about to commence: Anish was ushered aside, behind a sheet, blocking his view in preparation for the reveal of the bride. In Hindu ceremonies, this moment symbolises the bride’s transformation, as she transitions from her old life to her new role as beloved wife. Once Tara sat down in front of Anish, the veil was pulled away, and a hush fell over the guests… Anish gazed at her, awestruck by her radiance, moved beyond words by the knowledge that in moments, they would meet their shared destiny.
Melodious chants filled the air as Tara and Anish rose, standing together beneath the Mandap tent. Hands trembling with emotion, they exchanged flowered garlands, symbolizing their willingness to give the other unyielding devotion. Looking into Anish’s eyes, Tara’s soul spoke her commitment – as eternal and unchanging as the divine pulse of life itself – and his gaze answered back, unwavering. Then, the white Khes scarf was knotted around their hands, officially uniting them in marriage, and the sacred fire was lit at their feet.
Surrounded by their loved ones, they promised to embrace and uphold the four pillars of Hindu life: Dharma (living correctly and with purpose), Artha (achieving grateful abundance), Karma (understanding cause and effect), and Moksha (freedom of consciousness). With these values at their centre, Tara and Anish would move through life as two halves of the same heart, a testament to love’s power over darkness.
