Every so often in life, we find a hidden gem: Something beautiful or fascinating in a familiar area that we’ve never noticed before. Despite being a documentary wedding photographer in Paphos, I often find myself amazed by the secluded wonders around me… Places that hum with secret history and natural majesty, just out of sight off the beaten path. Such was the case when I was invited to photograph this wedding at rustic Liopetro venue for Amy and Tom. Though the venue is located just 15 minutes from Paphos (in Kouklia village), it was full of undiscovered magic.

Because I met Amy and Tom through a wedding planner, I didn’t know much about them or their wedding ahead of time. This meant I was in for a wonderful surprise when I arrived at the Liopetro Venue, nestled in the countryside. Though I have been to nearby Aphrodite Hills many times, Liopetro was a new experience. (At Aphrodite Hills, I attended the weddings of Sousana and Joni, Sian and Anthony, and Gemma and Will.) Built directly over the ruins of the ancient city of Palepaphos, Kouklia village seamlessly entwines past and present. At the heart of this vibrant, thriving village lies unearthed remains of its mythical roots, including the Sanctuary of Aphrodite. And, atop a hill overlooking the Mediterranean I found Liopetro, a carefully preserved remnant of history.

With its centuries-old stone walls, peaceful gardens, and 12th century church, Liopetro offers a journey back in time. Made completely from stone and wood, it allows nature to wholly embrace those who visit, nourishing their souls. Here, I could feel love’s sacred imprint on the land as I prepared to photograph Amy and Tom’s celebration. It was in every rustling leaf, as though the gentle song of the wind carried the voices of reverent ancestors.

Fittingly, this beautiful couple had chosen a graceful Bohemian theme for their wedding at rustic Liopetro venue: As I began the photo session, Amy posed in a flowing cream-white lace dress, soft brunette curls framing her face. Then, Tom got ready, choosing simple but elegant attire with a single flower pinned in his shirt. Every detail spoke of their connection to each other and to nature, reflecting both its passion and simplicity.

Surrounded by lush greenery and kissed by the Mediterranean sun, the wedding guests assembled – and a hush fell over them. On her father’s arm, Amy strode up the warm stone path, going to meet her destiny. When Tom saw her, he was overwhelmed with emotion: Wiping away a tear, he knew he’d found his Aphrodite; for him, Amy would always be the embodiment of love.

With their words echoing softly off the ancient stone walls, Amy and Tom spoke their vows. They promised to love and cherish one another, come what may, with a devotion outlasting life itself. From this ancient and hallowed place, they would begin the journey of the rest of their lives together. It was a commitment sealed first with a kiss, then with laughter and the loving embrace of family.

As the sun set on Liopetro, Amy and Tom took a walk together, hand-in-hand over the rolling green hills. Then, with the warm evening light bathing them in gold, Tom lifted Amy off the ground, overtaken with joy. In that moment, I captured both the beauty of love in full bloom and the splendour of nature’s gift. I was reminded that, no matter where we are, nature brings us back to our spiritual home. It unites us with the primal pulse of love and inspires us to build monuments, cities, and enriching lives.

For Amy and Tom, the stone archways of this natural paradise served as gateways: Passing under them, they crossed the threshold into a future filled with promise and possibilities.
