With each new leap in technology invariably comes a vocal chorus of naysayers who claim that our modern way of life is sure to unravel society. This trend is especially prevalent where social media is concerned: “Are people forgetting how to interact in real life?” the headlines ask. “Can we really connect over social media, or are we becoming a vast network of transient digital blips?”
All too often, this kind of alarmist “big picture” thinking overlooks the everyday miracles that continue to happen all around us. Take Gemma and Will, for example: Long before they were looking for an Aphrodite Hills wedding photographer, they were just another set of flashes across the screen, two ordinary young people caught up in their busy lives—Lives they regularly shared on social media. Though Gemma and Will had never met “IRL,” they noticed that their digital networks of friends heavily overlapped. This struck them both as being strange: How had they never bumped into one another in person before?
Soon enough, curiosity got the better of Gemma and Will. They shared too many friends, interests, and “likes” not to meet up. It didn’t take long for their initial overtures of friendship to reveal that there was a lot more to this connection than either of them had anticipated: Before they knew it, Gemma and Will were dating, united by their similar sense of humour and the very love of life that had earned them both so many friends.
When Will proposed—and Gemma happily accepted—while the two were on holiday in Turkey a year later, the young couple thought their incredible succession of surprises was over… But they were wrong. The wedding didn’t happen, for the best reason any couple could hope for: Nine months later, Gemma and Will welcomed a healthy baby boy into the world. One son was soon followed by another, and the young couple was joyously caught up in parenting the boys that they call “their world.”
Those wedding plans weren’t shelved indefinitely, however. Instead, Gemma and Will decided to host a true family affair here in Cyprus at the Aphrodite Hills Resort: They got their sons, their relatives, and their friends together to celebrate the union that had unexpectedly begun on social media years prior.
